Library of the Early Mind DVD

I had seen a clip from this and just had to have it.  It is a collection of authors and experts sharing commentary about the influence of children's literature.  There are so many great quotes from this!  If you love children's books, you'll like this movie.

For one of my homework assignments, I had to record a video of myself summarizing some readings.  I decided to stand to the side and have my daughter lipsync it.  It was hilarious!  She is quite the little actress.

The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School

This book has been long due.  If you are a kindergarten teacher, perhaps you already do this activity at the beginning of the school year to introduce the new students to the various places around the school like the cafeteria, the library, the office, the bathroom, and so on.  Finally a book has been made to help with that very cute lesson.  

Loved it!

Duggars

With six kids of my own, I'm interested in how big families do things.  I read this book which was actually quite informative about chores, cooking and ideas for character education. I liked it but would recommend it as the next book you put on hold at the library.

As a side note...the recent developments and negative media coverage about this family do not stop me from admiring their ability to manage a large household, and show Christian forgiveness with open repentance.  I stand by the family as a whole.  They seem to be doing the best they can, and doing a good job fighting the media beast.

Have you heard the term "Hackschooling?" Here is a TED talk from a middle school aged boy about his experiences with hackschooling.  It's a new term used to describe those that like experiential learning outside the classroom, usually in homeschool situations.  This gentleman likes to ski and relates to learning in that kind of environment.  

When I watch this I can't help but think that experiential learning can be in the public schools and not just a homeschool tool.  My classroom always did fundraising and took at least three field trips a month to learn by doing.  

Hackschooling is an interesting idea to ponder though.
